Top Tips for Staying on Track

A lot of people start the healthy eating lifestyle and find themselves quickly going back to bad habits. I often get asked how I manage to do it, what people don’t see is that when I first went Paleo & Gluten free I ‘relapsed’ so many times. I craved pasta, pizza and sugar… then one day my body just changed, my taste buds changed. I rarely crave heavy carbs such as pasta anymore, however sugar is still a massive problem for me.
Changing my eating habits had a major positive effect on my Hypothyroidism, which was a massive motivation for me personally to maintain the new diet.

Here are some of my personal top tips on how I’ve managed to lead the healthy eating lifestyle over the past couple of years:

1)Don’t eat anything you don’t like.
You’re never going maintain a healthy eating lifestyle if the food you’re putting in your mouth isn’t to your fancy, it’s going to leave you unsatisfied and craving something naughty!
If you don’t like kale, DONT EAT KALE (I hate it!)

2) Get creative!
A bowl of vegetables is the definition of torture to most people, however you can make the most flavoursome meals with such simple ingredients. Courgetti, Cauliflower Rice & Cauliflower Crust Pizza are among my favourites. I also find it’s so simple to make your own sauces by frying onions, garlic and low sugar carton tomatoes, add in spices/herbs to adapt the flavours and viola!

3) It’s ok to treat yourself!
The more you restrict yourself the more likely you’ll be to fail. I have a massive sweet tooth, I’d say it was borderline addictive. I allow myself a small piece of dark chocolate most evenings and when in social situations I allow myself ‘cheat meals’. I personally find the more I do this the more I crave my bowls of veg and clean eating.

4) Don’t restrict yourself
I rarely let myself feel hungry, if I do I turn into the Queen of Hangry (Hungry & Angry). I also find when I let myself get to the point of ‘starving’ I’m more likely to eat everything insight or more than usual.
I find grazing and three smaller meals is the way to go. I always have nuts, pretzel chips, apples and oranges in my handbag. I know it sounds a little excessive, but if I’m ever in a situation where I get hit with the hunger pangs I know I can nibble away!
